Etter en hel sommer i

Castelnaudary(Château des Cheminiéres pour

les étudiantes étrangers) og Carcassonne i

Syd-Frankrike, lærte jeg å sette pris på solsikker.

På frokostbordet var de smakstilsetning i den lokalproduserte honningen,

og resten av dagen dekorative blomsteroppsatser.

Rolige dager er en invitasjon til kreative prosjekter.

Inspirert av nordiske reinsdyr, og Frankrike´s åkrer av solsikker har jeg optimistisk valgt mønster til ny genser. Barnål grågrønn

bunnfarge, mørke brune reinsdyr og små fyrtårn av blinkende varme okergule solsikker innimellom. Likt en kort norsk sommer visner solsikker fort. Solsikker har sin blomstringstid i august måned. På tross av sommervarme, og kanskje noen sløve dager innimellom feriegjester, prosjekt i Bagarstugan m.m., satser jeg på å ha genseren ferdig i august:)

Lazy days are an invitation for new projects.

Optimistic, I have decided to knit a new sweater.

Inspired by Nordic reindeer, and the fields of France populated with blooming sunflowers. Moss or pine green color as base, dark brown colored reindeer, and warm rich yellow ochre sunflowers in between.

This sweater is for coming fall and the wonders that is included of that time of the year. Likewise a Scandinavian summer,

Sunflowers wilt quickly. I hope to capture the blooming and, in spite of coming summer heat, summer guests, concept in Bagarstugan etc., finish the garment in August :)

Stas, ull og tyll for øyens lyst. Interessen for folkedrakter, eller bunader går i bølger. Akkurat nå er folklore og nasjonalromantikk veldig aktuelt. Blomstrende sjal, sirlige broderier, tidkrevende mønster med detaljer, og gjerne håndvevd stoff. Da er det mange som henter inspirasjon fra festlige norske bunader, og svenske folkedrakter.

Hodeplagg hører også med en komplett bunad eller folkedrakt. Den skal sette prikken over -i-en. Samt, gi drakten og bæreren, helhet, pryd og siluett. Bildene viser hodeplagget til Rogalandsbunaden etter mønster fra Frafjord.

Rosesømmen på hua til Rogalandsbunaden er inspirert av tulipanen. Tulipanen er et eldgammelt mønster som er brukt i Rogaland. Ikke bare i broderier, men også i vev og rosemaling. Visst er det fint, med gamle mønster og håndarbeider!

Historik, tradition, yll och tyll för ögats önskan. Intresset för folkdräkt går i vågor, och just nu är folklore och nationalromantik åter aktuellt. Blommiga sjalar, sirliga broderier, vackra mönster med detaljer skal det vara. Inte är det självklart att ha en folkdräkt hemma, men bilder gör nyttan.

Det var en gång en söt liten flicka som het "Rödluvan". Alla som såg henne tyckte om hennes fina hätta. Nordiska nationella festdräkter har sina speciella mösser; Dräkthätta. Hätta på bildet är från Rogaland och är broderat på yll och är inspirerad av tulpan. Visst är den vacker, med sina färgstarka yllebroderier, spets (knyppling) och gamla handarbeten!

In Norway, National Costume is hand work, history, tradition, pride and beauty. The rose pattern on the hood from Rogalandsbunaden is inspired by tulips. Also, some people say the hood is inspired by the fairy tale; Little Red Riding Hood?

The tulip is an ancient pattern that is used in Rogaland through hundreds of years. Not only in wool embroidery, but also in weaving and floral paintings.

Broderi etter Lølandmønster - Rogalandsbunad Husfliden

Broderi etter mønster fra forkle til Vestfoldbunad.

These Fingerless Gloves are perfect to match my national costume at the 17th of May when waving my flag, or to use just about anywhere when it´s a bit too cold to work without something covering your hands. The yarn brand is Norwegian Rauma yarn. 100% wool, and can only be purchased at certified dealers. The color off-white is perfect to match anything. After reading the direction, I decided the easiest way to really learn this would be to translate it to English. It forced me to think through every stitch and row. I´ve designet the gusset so there is one seeming stitch involved. I prefer to knit the first stitch on every row of the thumb in purl (P). Also, I´ve tried to give instruction so that there is absolutely no holes to speak of when adding stitches. This is the first knitting pattern to translate from Norwegian to English and I´m sure there are a few mistakes, please do not hesitate to drop a comment. I then will be able to correct the mistake, and prevent others from making the same. Thanks, and good luck!

KNITTING INSTRUCTION - NORWEGIAN FINGERLESS GLOVES (First photo from the top - 1st place in a local knitting competition issued by The Norwegian Association of Arts & Crafts ):

Materials: 100% wool, Rauma Yarn, Off-White, 2 treads, 50 gram

1 set double-point needles size 2,5 mm, and 1 set double-point needles size 2 mm.

Stitch holder or waste yarn

Small tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Stitch explanation:

p = purl

k = knit

psso = pass stitch slip on to next needle, or slip 1 stitch as if to knit

K2 tog = knit 2 stitches together

1YO = cast yarn between two stitches.

Start as follows: On double pointed needles cast on 66 stitches. Place loops on 4 separate needles size 2.5 mm.

Work in the round as follows:

Row 1 : P1, K 10 - Repeat to the end.

Row 2 : P1, K2 tog, K2, 1YO (cast yarn between to stitches), K2, 1YO, K2, 1psso (slip 1 stitch as if to knit), K1 and slip the psso over the last K1. Repeat this pattern in the round.

Continue row 1 and row 2 until piece measures 7 cm.

On last row bind off as follows to 54 sts: Knit row 2, but do not 1YO (cast), and the row will adjust to 54 sts.

Knit one round. Change to double pointed needles size no. 2 mm.

Start thumb gusset:

K1, add a sts. (Without getting a hole just knit into the loop made by the stitch under the next stitch and then knit the next stitch on the left needle).

K3, add sts.

Repeat this round on every fourth (4) row until 15 sts are added.

(Tips: You may place a marker before and after the K3 in the middle).

Place the 15 sts for thumb gusset onto waste yarn, or stitch holder. Replace the ten (10) slipped stitches from right needle back to left needle. The round now has 61 stitches.

Continue knitting round until you have reached a comfortable lenght (5 cm) after the thumb. P last row and bind off all stitches.

For thumb:

Pick up stitches from waste yarn and using working yarn pick up two stitches from the sides. 22 stitches. K in the round until the thumb measure 2 cm. P last row, and bind off.

Gjenta omg. 1 og 2. På siste omg. sløyfes kastene, det blir nå 54 m rundt.
Strikk 1 omg. (Bytt til pinner nr. 2)

Begynn økning til tommel:
Strikk 1 m, ta opp 1 m, strikk 3 m, ta opp 1 m.
Øk på hver 4. omg. til det er 15 m (medregnet de 3 i midten). Sett maskene på en tråd. Legg opp nye 10 m, 61 m på omgangen.
Strikk til passe lengde på pulsvanten, ca. 5 cm etter tommelen. Den siste omg. strikkes vr, før en feller av.

Tommelen strikkes ca 2 cm før den siste omg. strikkes vr. og felles av.

Broderiet er fra broderiet på Husflidens bunad, og sydd med garnet som hører til. Mønsteret kan overføres ved å tegne det på matpapir, og så trokle etter tegningen, plukke vekk papiret og så brodere etter tråklingen. Eller en kan tegne det direkte på med tusj eller blyant.

Vadmelspute med Ullbroderi...Myskudda med Yllebroderi....Felted Pillow and embroidery...

God ide! Putene er brodert på vadmel, og er et prosjekt mellom to venninner. De eier hver sin, og bytter putene seg i mellom. Dermed får de unike puter, og et flott minne.

Keepsake pillow! A long lasting memory from your best friends, a soft reminder from your best friend, or last, but not least, a perfect way to say: "Never say Goodbye"!! These unique pillows are a project between two friends. They take turns to embroider freely on each other's pillows. What a great idea!! The warm and soft lamb fur on the back, and the felted front of the pillow, tell they are living in a cold climate. Actually the temperature may fall to -40 c


Alt starter på landsbygden! Broderiet på bildet er fra Telemark og datert 1600-tallet. (www.svenskhemslöjd.se). Historien forteller at håndarbeidet eller broderiet var det eneste kvinnene eide, og ofte var det resirkulerte gamle klær de broderte på. Tips! Forestill deg din gamle vinterkåpe i ull som resirkulert sofapute:-) Old=New

Sjöjungfrun på bildet syddes i Telemark i Norge på 1600-tallet.

The photo from www.svenskhemslojd.se show a Norwegian wool embroidery dated 1600s from Telemark County. So, it all started in the countryside! It is embroidered free-hand on felted wool fabric. Often they recycled from old clothes. Remember wool is the only fiber that can filter itself. Now, imagine how your recycled wool winter coat could look like as pillow:-)

Pakken med garn og mønster kjøpte jeg i butikken på Nordanå Museum i Skellefteå. Så at de ville passe perfekt til bunaden 17 mai!! Historien om designeren er veldig rørende - God lesing!!
I bought the instructions and materials at Nordanå Museum in Skellefteå. My intention was to make the gloves to wear with my National Costume - Nordlandsbunaden -. With the cold weather in Norway they are truly a must. I like them a lot!!

The story of designer Brita Kajsa Karlsdotter is as follows:
Brita Kajsa Karlsdotter lived a hard life where the struggle for bread and food was her most important task each day. She was good and generous. Her strong religious beliefs gave her strength through the difficulties she met in her every day life. Often, her embroideries are signed with the letters ARTHG which means All The Glory Belong To God.

She was very poor. The material she used for table cloths were pieces of used sheet - recycling - återvinning - gjenbruk - even in the 1800s! She picked the part of the sheet that was in the best condition. More, she picked the red cotton threads of a glass towel to use for embroidering. Great idea for recycling!!

Her inspiration is from the nature in her surroundings. It was pine and Wild Swedish summer flowers. To make the pattern she had to tore into the fabric directly by using her nails or the needle. All her works are different, but her compositions may be repeated. Old = New!!
